IOS 14 Tips and Tricks
iOS 14 Tips and Tricks
So you got your new iPhone for Christmas, but you’re not quite sure how to get the most out of it yet?
Don’t worry; we are here to help!
With so many new and amazing features, it can be hard to know where to start with your iOS. We offer our favourite tips and tricks for those who have had the iOS 14 update.
Organisation and Customisation
The new iOS 14 update is all about organisation and personalisation! To help get your phone looking the way you want it to, there are many ways you can now organise your apps. We take a look at a couple of tricks below to keep your phone’s Home Screen in top shape.
Use the App Library
Sometimes when we download a new app, we don’t want it to go straight to our Home Screen, especially when we may have dedicated a rather substantial amount of time to get it to look how we like it!
With the iOS 14 update, an App Library is now available! This means any apps you don’t use regularly can be stored here instead of on your Home Screen.
The App Library also means that any new apps can automatically go here once downloaded, keeping your phone super organised.
To do this:
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Click ‘Home Screen’
- Under ‘newly downloaded apps’, choose ‘App Library only’
View Apps in a List
For those who can’t help but love a list, this little tip is for you!
Your App Library stores apps into folders, but it doesn’t have to remain this way if you prefer to see your apps in a list format.
Once in App Library, simply pull down on the screen; the App Library will list your apps in alphabetical order for you to view.
If you’re in a hurry, don’t forget to use the search bar at the top to find the app you are after.
Personalise Your Widgets
In the new iOS 14 update, there are many new opportunities to personalise your phone.
One that many users are loving is the ability to change and edit your widgets.
Instead of storing widgets in the Today View Page, as iPhones without the iOS 14 update will be familiar with, users can now move the widgets from here to their Home Screen and resize them.
You can create your own widgets on online sites such as Widgetsmith for true customisation on your phone!
If you want to move your widgets to your Home Screen, all you need to is:
- Press the app icon on the Home Screen.
- Click ‘Edit Home Screen’.
Alternatively, you can also tap on an empty area on your Home Screen for a longer time.
- A plus sign should appear at the top corner of your screen, press it.
- Here, you can search for the widget you want to place. Scroll to the bottom and choose the widget you want from the list of installed apps.
- Select the size of the widget you desire.
- Then, press ‘Add Widget’ which will appear in a pop-up window.
Top Tip if Working From Home
A random but useful feature in the iOS update we want to throw in is faking eye contact on FaceTime!
Yes, your phone can make it appear as though you are gazing at the camera and ultimately the other person on the call during FaceTime.
If you think this could be handy, especially with many of us working from home during the lockdown, simply:
- Go to ‘Settings’.
- Select ‘FaceTime’.
- Then choose ‘Eye Contact’, and you’re ready!
