Google Nest Hub Tips and Tricks

There is so much more to Google Nest Hub than merely being a smart speaker! Yes, it can answer all your endless questions, but there are many additional features too!

Complete with a touchscreen, Google Nest Hub doesn’t just support you through audio communication, but it can also show you things via its screen to, meaning you can manage daily life with ease.

We explore Google Nest Hub’s exciting features and explain how you can introduce them to your home!

About Google Nest Hub

Also referred to as the Google Home Hub, Google Nest Hub is a tablet-like device which acts as a smart speaker and is installed into your home.

Home Control Centre

The Google Nest device acts as a control centre for your home, this being one of the most appealing features for users.

Some of the most basic abilities of the smart speaker include:

  • Setting alarms
  • Setting timers
  • Organising to-do lists
  • Creating and storing shopping lists
  • Playing music
  • Checking the weather
  • Shopping online

There are many other useful things Google Nest Hub can do, and the above are just a handful.

However, once connected to network systems, the gates of opportunity open and your home can be conveniently controlled by one location.

Feel like dimming the lights? Leave it to Google Home! Any compatible devices can be linked via the hub including fridges, thermostats, lighting and much more!

Setting Up Compatible Devices

To connect compatible devices to your Google Nest Hub, the Google Home app just needs to be set up, and you are good to go!

  1. To start, go to the ‘Home View’ menu by simply swiping down from the top of the screen.
  2. You will be met with a selection of devices in your home. For example, ‘lights’ or ‘cameras’.
  3. Select which category you want, and this will take you to the control menus for them.
  4. If you select ‘View rooms’, you will see your available smart items organised into different areas of the house.
  5. Those which appear will only be the devices you have linked to the Google Home app.
  6. To add devices to the Google Home app, open the app and select ‘Add’, then ‘Set up device’ and follow the instructions with your account information at hand.

There are also third-party apps you can use on your Google Nest Hub to connect smart devices.

Using the Touchscreen

Instead of talking to Google Assistant, you can also get visual answers to your demands through the Google Nest Hub’s touchscreen.

This could be things like news, weather, watching videos and even flicking through photos!

One incredibly useful feature is the ability to search for recipes. The Google Home Hub offers broken down instructions for recipes available on the internet!

Speaking to Google Assistant

Google Nest Hub’s virtual assistant, resourcefully named Google Assistant, is built into the smart speaker and is the voice you hear when you ask Google Home any questions.

Google Assistant is essentially the software which enables a two-way conversation between you and the smart speaker.

To use Google Assistant, you simply have to use voice commands.

Just start by saying ‘Hey Google’, and then continue with your query or demand.

Setting Up Filters

With so much scope and opportunity with the Google Nest Hub, overexposure to the internet can worry some parents.

The Google Nest Hub can be easily filtered to put your mind at ease. This can include blocking or filtering explicit content as well as stopping phone calls.

Depending on how many accounts you have set up (Google Nest Hub manages multiple accounts that can be voiced controlled), you can create filters for all users or only specific, supervised accounts managed by ‘Family Link’.

To set up filters:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Select ‘Settings’.
  3. Then choose ‘Digital Wellbeing’.
  4. Here, you have the option to ‘Set up’ to manage filters.

These are only a fraction of the things you can do on Google Nest Hub; there are endless features and devices you can manage through the smart device! How do you use your Google Home Hub? Share your thoughts on our social media channels!
