The Techout in the running for four national awards
The Techout in Barnstaple has been ranked among the best mobile phone businesses in the country after making the shortlist for a quartet of prestigious national awards.
The store in Queen Street has been shortlisted in four categories for the 2022 Mobile Industry Awards and is up against giant names such as Samsung, Music Magpie, Mazuma and Sky Mobile.
The business was set up during the first Covid lockdown by Troy Staddon and Chaz Jenkins and has already gained a strong reputation in North Devon for its repair, buying and selling services for all things tech.
At its first entry into the awards, The Techout has been named in the top four shortlist for the Start Up of the Year awards category, as well as in the top 10 for Retailer of the Year, plus the top six for Best Repair Service and for Best Recycling Service.
Now Troy, Chaz and their staff are hoping to pick up at least one gong when they attend the swish awards ceremony at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel on September 22.
The business started up in early 2020 and soon gained a name for prompt and great service for repairs as well as buying and selling mobile phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches and games consoles.
From the outset, owners Troy and Chaz said they wanted to offer customers a responsive and quality service at competitive prices, that would be easy to use and accessible online or at the Queen Street store when it was able to open after the lockdowns.
Troy said: “As an independent local business we are so proud to have been shortlisted for these awards and it’s nice to be recognised nationally as well as locally – to be shortlisted for one award would have been brilliant, but to be chosen for four is just amazing and a testament to our great staff.
“We think our attention to detail and desire to go the extra mile for our customers has helped us stand out for the judges and we are so pleased they have picked up on some of the fantastic work we are doing here at The Techout.
“We know how absolutely vital mobile devices are for our customers and so from the outset we have tried to make things as accessible as possible for them, from opening our store 12 hours a day, six days a week, to enabling them to buy and sell tech on our website as well as book a repair with just a few clicks.”
Chaz added: “We have been blown away by the amazing support from our customers since we first opened, with not a single negative review on our Google or Facebook listings and both ranked at five stars, that speaks for itself.
“But we don’t take that for granted and work constantly to offer the best possible repairs with the best components at very sensible prices, often within an hour or less.
“Troy and I have more than 15 years of experience in the industry between us, but we had a vision to create the kind of mobile phone business that we would want to use ourselves – and I think the results in less than two years shows we are on the right track.”
